Glyconutrients, Fibromyalgia, and CFS
To begin with, let me say that this is not about selling glyconutrients or any other nutritional supplements. After doing research, I began using the glyconutrients, but this article is purely dedicated to passing along my research on how glyconutritionals can help people with FM or CFS. If you want to know more, you may contact me by email. Otherwise, I hope you enjoy the research. I think it is hopeful. I'll give my opinion at the end.
Background on Fibro Myalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.
I have researched through quite a bit of information regarding glyconutrients. It hasn't been easy. There are several web sites out there with people trying to sell their vitamins to me, but it is clear when you've come across a good site or journal article on this product. To begin with, these twin-sister diseases are not to be taken lightly. They aren't just a hinderance to life. In fact, a young lady by the name of Sophia Mizra, 32 years old, died in England earlier this year. Her death attracted worldwide attention because her death was the first in the U.K. to be officially blamed on chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS). It is estimated that more than 7 percent of women ages 60 to 79 and 3.4 percent for women in the general population vs. 0.5 percent for men have fibromyalgia (FM). CFS is more difficult to diagnose, and accurate numbers are not available.
The Problem - A Nutritional Point of View
Researchers cannot be certain when disorders like CFS and FM developed. However, there's good reason to believe our "hunter-gatherer" ancestors did not suffer from many of the illnesses plaguing modern humans. One possible explanation is that our food supply is depleted of phytochemicals and other nutrients. In fact, it can almost be the opposite, with some of our food often containing toxins, such as pesticides. To put it in more simple terms, if you eat a reasonably healthy diet rich in raw vegetables and fruits, ounce-for-ounce you are not getting the nutrition you would have received from the same food 50 years ago. Research that I have found has scientists concluding that it is very possible that our ancestors received all the nutrition they needed, includoing glyconutrients, each day from food. In contrast, the foods we eat provide much less nutrition, including the critical glyconutrients, than most people need. While no doctor can label a specific cause for FM and CFS, it isn't a mystery that our bodies are out of balance and not functioning correctly. The symptoms of CFS and FM "could be caused" by toxic or infectious attacks affecting the immune system and changing the body's normal processes on a cellular level. Glyconutrients offer potential help as part of the solution to these ailments since they specifically help on the cellular level (which is almost the opposite of many medications).
Are Glyconutrients an Answer?
Studies have shown that glyconutrients can increase endurance and may boost stamina for the fatigue that CFS and FM patients. I am not going to bore you with all of the research, double blind studies, scientific jargon, or any of that. You can find that on your own. But, let me say this. Nothing is perfect. We live in an imperfect world and a fallen world. One of the things I am most impressed with regarding glyco nutrients is that it provides so much that is missing from our daily diet, even if all I did was eat salads and berries all day. It can bring back that "balance" that seems to be missing that will enable your body to cope and fight off what is ailing it. I believe our bodies are programmed to be healthy, and when they're not, they fight to restore health. But, without the proper nutrition, no drug or pill is ever going to give your body what it needs. Personally, I take glyconutrients now because I'm convinced of the science and what it is doing for me. Much like doctors can measure FM and CFS to any accurate degree, I can't measure how my life has improved. But, I know it's better, and I'm better off. Again, this isn't a commercial or anything. I don't want this web site to become a commercial. If you have questions or comments about glyconutrients, just Contact me. ~ The Fibro Lady
